PRETTY GOOD
sooty.m's Dry Wonton Noodles list
BRIEF: “CONSISTS OF FRIED WANTONS, FISH SAUSAGES, AND CHAR SIEW.”
SOOT’S TAKE: This is different than the local Chinese style wanton mee in a few respects:
1. The noodles are of the instant ramen type rather than the thinner (and just different) egg noodles used in all other wonton noodle dishes I’ve had.
2. The addition of deep fried fish sausage pieces which are a little too sweet for the whole dish and offsets the balance of the other flavors.
3. The char siew is actually really flavorful and tender which is a nice departure from the dry, virtually flavorless versions I often encounter in Chinese style wonton mee.
4. The addition of fried lard cubes which may or may not be found in Chinese versions but I’m not 💯% sure. At any rate, I left them uneaten.
I’m glad I finally got to try this place, but at almost twice the price of local wonton mee and the relatively underwhelming experience overall, it’s unlikely I’d return.
