REALLY GOOD
1st HAM HOCK & BLACK PUDDING TERRINE.
St Aldates Tavern, Oxford
An absolutely fantastic sampler dish - the terrine had a lovely texture and all the flavors were wonderfully represented, served with toasted brioche and red onion marmalade. For 5 GBP, this dish was a STEAL. This humble pub is really putting out some good food!
2nd OXTAIL TERRINE WITH FOIE GRAS CENTER
Brauereigasthof Hotel Aying, Aying
the "what is it" says it all. but this thing was - if you ask Mr. Carastian beautiful. well balanced flavors, great texture combinations, a perfect starter. Mrs. Cararstian was put off by some more gristly parts.
3rd TAFELSPITZ TERRINE
Schlosswirtschaft Maxlrain, Tuntenhausen
Mr. C's appetizer was a generous portion of boiled beef served in a lovely terrine form, which worked well with the smathering of pumpkin seed oil. They could have given the flavors more depth, added something... not sure... but when eating this you felt like just SOMETHING was missing. Good try, though. They could work on this a bit and really hit it home if they tried!
4th PORK TERRINE
Herrmannsdorfer Wirtshaus zum Schweinsbräu, Glonn
The greeting from the kitchen - a beautiful cold terrine of pork (featuring their Schwäbische Hällische pig - which just 20 years ago were almost extinct) with schmears of olive tapenade and basil pesto. A jumpstart for our taste buds!
