AMAZING
1st HANGOVER BURGER
Black Sheep MKE, Milwaukee
Bacon, cheddar cheese, sunny egg, sausage gravy on a burger? It equals a delightful brunch burger that is impossible to put down, a truly wonderful combination of flavors with a very flavorful burger to boot. This is absolutely delightful!!!
2nd WISCO BURGER
Oak Barrel Public House, Milwaukee
What a burger!!! Two smash burgers with Muenster, cheddar, and bechamel cheese sauce all on a fluffy potato bun. Oh, and bacon two ways: thick cut and pulled! The pulled bacon was a heavenly experience of tender, flavorful shreds of bacon. I did add a touch of ketchup just for some extra moisture due to the thickness of the bun relative to the burgers, but my goodness what a flavor bomb!!
3rd CLASSIC AJ
AJ Bombers, Milwaukee
What a double cheeseburger!!! Perfect medium rare patties with a great seasoning, perfectly salted. Subbed Colby for the American this normally comes with (because American “cheese” is not cheese!), and added some of the chipotle ranch that comes with the cheese curds and it brought out a new level to this burger.
4th BIG BACON BBQ BURGER
Chancery Restaurant & Pub, Mequon
Perfectly seasoned and cooked medium rare on the nose!! Very flavorful BBQ sauce, a touch of crunch in the bun, and the waffle fries were EXQUISITE!!!!
REALLY GOOD
5th BROWN SUGAR CHEDDAR BURGER
Boulder Tap House - Mankato, Mankato
Labeled as the world’s best burger on the menu, the number of flavors working here deliver on that hype. The BBQ is incredibly savory, incredible seasoning and perfectly cooked burger!
6th PIZZA BURGER
Eagle Park Brewing Company, Milwaukee
Incredibly juicy burger perfectly seasoned with pizza sauce and melted mozzarella! Impossible to put down!
7th WESTERN BURGER
Inventors Brewpub, Port Washington
What a great flavor in this burger! The Cajun spices give this such a great flavor and heat to it that melds perfectly with the pepper jack and BBQ sauce!
8th MAPLE BACON BURGER
The Brick Pub and Grill, Glendale
While the burger was a touch dry, the flavors were all there. The maple syrup on the bacon was an incredible addition of complex flavor, and blended great with the cheddar and pretzel bun. Though the seasoning was a bit lacking and the pretzel bun was more dry, I still would recommend it just for the maple experience.
9th BEER CHEESE BURGER
The Stillery - Grafton, Grafton
A really great medium rare burger with bacon and beer cheese sauce on a pretzel bun, oozing with flavor! A delightful burger all around!
10th BACON CHEESEBURGER
Growlers East Tosa, Wauwatosa
This burger is loaded with varying flavors! The garlic aioli is not too thick or greasy, and compliments the seasoning of the burger, and on a very good brioche hun. The bacon is a touch too thick and nearly a jerky, but it's manageable. I very much wish they had more cheese options beyond American though!!!
11th SCONNIE BURGER
Café Hollander Mequon, Mequon
Wisconsin food culture in a burger (see: cholesterol bomb)! Served with a cheese curd skewer, cheddar, bier cheese aioli, bacon, and a pretzel bun, it really has it all. The pretzel bun is a bit dense and really requires the moisture from some added ketchup to help the mouth feel, but the flavors are absolutely there! Perfectly cooked burger with a great seasoning!
12th TRUE GRIT
Hot Head Fried Chicken by Crafty Cow, Milwaukee
While the burger was a touch over my preferred doneness, the flavors on this were simple and exectuted well. Cheddar makes it better, the seasoning is good, and bacon and an AMAZING BBQ sauce add the extra bit to move this from "Pretty Good" to "Really Good".
PRETTY GOOD
13th FARMHOUSE BURGER
Water Street Brewery, Grafton
A thick burger that lacked seasoning, topped with Monterey Jack cheese, an over-easy egg, bacon, and a spicy aioli on a pretzel bun. This burger was big and messy, but was a bit lacking of substance despite the size of the package here.
14th SMOKED BRISKET BURGER
Firewise BBQ, WI 53214
Smoky ground brisket on a fluffy roll-style bun with cheddar and BBQ sauce with a great amount of heat? Sign me up. Only complaints are it was a little cold and lacked some seasoning.
15th WISCONSINITE
Foxtown Brewing, Mequon
This is a very tasty burger, with french fries on the bottom of the pretzel bun topped with creamy cheese curds and bacon! A very greasy burger and messy to eat, but packed with flavor, though I do recommend ketchup for an extra splash of flavor and moisture!
16th THE 1857
Foxtown Brewing, Mequon
This burger has so much good going for it, really excellent flavor from the BBQ and smoked brisket, but there tend to be VERY thick and well done bits of brisket that are closer to beef jerky than anything else, which is hard to manage mid-bite of a burger. Hard to eat, but worth it overall.
17th DOUBLE BACON BREW CHEESEBURGER
Good City Mequon Public Market, Mequon
The Sriracha mayo is the saving grace of this burger, as there isn't much seasoning to be found from the burger itself. A perfectly fine burger that would definitely benefit from more seasoning.
18th COMEBACK BURGER
Blue Moon Brewing Company, Denver
Very good seasoning and flavor that survived being cooked beyond medium rare like requested. Cheddar was subbed (American cheese is not fit for human consumption) for my order. The comeback sauce and house ketchup provided needed moisture and a kick of flavor to counteract the dryer burger and the bun to save this.
19th MAC & CHEESE BURGER
The District Pub & Grill, Eau Claire
Just okay mac and cheese, good flavor in the burger and bun to make it worthwhile!
JUST OK
20th DREAM BURGER
Wonderland, Milwaukee
This was a low effort burger. Patty was routine, Muenster cheese was shredded and not melted, and the bun was just too big for the amount of burger here. Tasted fine, but incredibly lacking. Lots of ketchup was used here.
21st BACON DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER
Kwik Trip, Mequon
A serviceable bacon cheeseburger for the go, but by no means stellar or worth seeking out. Just enough seasoning to make it worth the effort, but low bar for a $4 burger.
22nd CBG BURGER
Crushed By Giants Brewing Company, Chicago
Ground beef blended with ground bacon on paper is very good. The patties itself of this burger hold up to that expectation. However, the lack of quality cheese (i.e. ruined by American "cheese") and a run of the mill bun make this a very middle of the road burger as a whole. For $16 without an accompanying order of fries, I'm not sure I can recommend it for being just fine.
23rd BACON CHEESEBURGER
Stack'd Burger Bar, Milwaukee
This burger was just missing flavor. Bacon was a touch overdone and the pretzel bun was a bit dense. The burger really needed ketchup to be interesting. Was cooked medium rare perfectly, but was missing a seasoning.
NOT FOR ME
24th JUICY LUCY
5-8 Club, Minneapolis
Very lackluster: felt like little effort was put in to the burger. Bun is basic off-the-shelf, melted cheese filling tastes like processed fake “American” sliced cheese. Could be made better myself.
25th CHEESEBURGER
Small Cheval- Riverside, Chicago
Bun was dry, burger was lukewarm and not particularly seasoned, cheese unmelted. Pretty disappointing stop.
26th BOURBON BACON BURGER
Growlers East Tosa, Wauwatosa
Very low effort burger that isn’t even served with cheese. Bacon jam is not good and I took it off the burger as it only tasted like onion. Very disappointing burger.
27th WISCONSIN HOOKS MELT
Milwaukee Ale House Grafton, Grafton
This just was a lacking burger. The shallot aioli was a distraction and just plain odd. The cheddar cheese was very thick and hardly melted. Sourdough functioned as toast better than a bun. I don't really know what to say other than not to get this.
28th BACON BBQ BURGER
Skippy's Burger Bar, Thiensville
Everything on the burger was overcooked and without flavor, except the humble amount of BBQ sauce put on the burger. Burnt bacon and a beyond medium well burger with an over toasted bun. This was not a delight to eat in the slightest: not “flipping awesome” as their slogan would indicate.
