REALLY GOOD
1st NOODLES SERVED WITH SLICED BEEF, STEWED BEEF AND BEEF BALLS
Wattana Panich, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon
(Swipe to see giant vat of beef broth) Wowzers. This soup was so rich and beefy we wanted to drink up every single flavourful drop of it. The sliced beef was tender, stewed beef had lovely melt-in-your-mouth fatty bits and the beef balls were bouncy and well... beefy. Ugh. More please.
2nd BEEF NOODLES
Lao Mao Cafe, Petaling Jaya
Excellent bowl of beef noodles. Read somewhere that it takes the owner 48 hours to prepare the broth. Not sure if that’s true, but the broth is deep and rich with flavour and the beef is melt-in-your-mouth tender. Even the piece of daikon that came with the noodles was soft and infused with beefy goodness. Very satisfying.
3rd BEEF NOODLES (DRY) WITH TENDON, SLICED BEEF & TRIPE
KBN King's Seremban Beef Noodle, Petaling Jaya
Topped with peanuts, sesame seeds and pickled vegetables with a thick goopy sauce. Not everyone’s bowl of noodles but I loved this! Very different from KL-style beef noodles.
4th SIGNATURE MIX NOODLES
Shen Niu Beef Noodle House, Petaling Jaya
Very tender pieces of beef and tripe with some tendon and a beef ball thrown in as well. The broth was thick and robust, very enjoyable. Reviews however have been mixed, with some posters complaining that the broth is tasteless so this is probably a YMMV situation.
5th BEEF NOODLE (SPICY)
Jin Taiwan 今台湾, Puchong
Taiwanese-style beef noodles. Robust broth with tender beef and pleasantly chewy noodles. We have been dining at this humble restaurant for a few years now and while the prices have gone up quite a bit, it’s still a place that we find comforting and reliable and will always return.
7th BRAISED BEEF DAO XIAO NOODLE
Lanzhou Mee Tarik 兰州牛肉拉面, Petaling Jaya
Knife-cut noodles with braised beef. Really Good if you add chili oil and a splash of black vinegar. Be warned though, not everything here is good. Also, the restaurant is a little dingy so if you’re looking for somewhere atas, best skip this place.
PRETTY GOOD
8th HAINANESE BEEF NOODLES
Hong Kee Beef Noodle, Singapore
Listed in Singapore Michelin Bib Gourmand 2016 and 2017, this stall apparently has more than 60 years of history. We found the noodles quite enjoyable, albeit a little on the delicate side.
