REALLY GOOD
1st PFC
Pun's, Petaling Jaya
If you’re ever unsure of what to order at Pun’s, just order their fried chicken. Crispy, mildly spiced and juicy, it’s definitely lip-smacking good. Comes with a bun, curly potato crisps and slaw.
2nd AYAM GORENG
Aunty Manju's Home Of Banana Leaf, Kuala Lumpur
Their fried chicken is really good! Nicely marinated with local spices and fried to near-perfection. Great with your banana leaf rice.
3rd ORIGINAL FRIED CHICKEN WITH RICE
Dendy doo fried chicken, Petaling Jaya
A whole chicken thigh marinated and deep fried with local spices and served with rice and two sides (coleslaw and potato curry). This also came with extra sambal and curry. This chicken was deliciously juicy without being greasy. Sides were decent and portions were generous. Reasonably priced too. Definite win!
4th CRISPY CHICKEN WITH INDOMIE
Dendy doo fried chicken, Petaling Jaya
Unlike the original fried chicken, the crispy chicken was coated in batter and fried to crispy perfection. Don’t worry if you are craving for some of the fried rempah (spices) that comes with the original. Dendy Doo will still give you a generous serving of it with your boneless piece of crispy fried chicken.
5th EXTRA SPICY AYAM GORENG MCD
McDonald's @ Tesco Extra Puchong, Puchong
3X more spicy than their regular spicy fried chicken and comes with a warning “Eat At Your Own Risk”. Tasty but insanely spicy. I could only eat one piece and I surrendered. It hit the back of my throat first before settling down to a low burning fire in the pit of my stomach. In the next 24 hours that low fire would occasionally flare up and make me regret my life decisions. I suppose I got off lightly, as there have been reported cases of people needing medical attention after consuming this. Would I do it again? Actually, yes. I am a sucker for punishment.
6th GLAZED HERB & GARLIC CHICKEN
Texas Chicken @ Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya
Wow this was so good. Great crunchy skin and juicy meat with a garlicky, slightly sweet glaze. This was better than some of the Korean fried chicken that I’ve had. And as I’m reviewing this I feel like I need to have this again... super tasty!
7th SUPER HOT 2 PC MEAL
Hot Bird Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya
Excitingly Hot, according to the menu. Yup it was. But it’s the kind of heat that thankfully doesn’t linger too long. It’s an adrenaline rush in every bite but very manageable. Next level - Burn Baby Burn and Reaper. Bring it!
8th NO HEAT 2 PC MEAL
Hot Bird Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya
Supposedly Malaysia’s first Nashville style hot chicken. Full disclosure, I have not tried actual Nashville style fried chicken but I can tell you that this was good. Very juicy and moist. Great seasoning too. Bit pricy though.
9th GAI TOD
Chatuchak Weekend Market, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon
There's just something about Thai-style fried chicken that just draws you in. The smell of frying chicken itself is enough to entice you and before you know it you're munching on a piece of chicken.
10th AYAM PENYET
928 Nice to Eat Food Centre (Medan Selera 928), Puchong
Fried to order and really delicious and addictive with the fiery sambal. Do not ignore the fried tofu and tempeh that comes with this. They are equally just as good. If the heat is a little too much to handle, temper it with some raw cabbage or sliced cucumbers before moving on to the next bite 😄.
11th MALA CHICKEN
Texas Chicken @ Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya
“Mouth-numbing hotness, mind-blowing flavor” Oh. My mouth. First bite itself I could feel the heat. It was a good heat, one that sends little tingling sensations to my ears. By the time I got to the second piece of chicken though I was crying. I enjoyed it, but I’m scared to do it again.
12th BONELESS CHICKEN BITES RICE BOX
4Fingers Crispy Chicken @ NU Sentral, Kuala Lumpur
Japanese rice with teriyaki sauce served with boneless chicken bites, shredded seaweed and kimslaw. This combo of Korean fried chicken, rice and kimchi coleslaw was so good! The slaw really kicked things up a notch here.
PRETTY GOOD
13th FRIED CHICKEN SKIN
Boat Noodle - IOI Mall, Puchong
These were extremely good. Crispy, a little bit spicy and highly addictive!
14th KARAAGE
Ramen Seirock-ya Uptown, Petaling Jaya
It’s fried chicken. And as fried chicken, it was nice. Kinda pricy though for the amount you get.
16th CHICKEN MARYLAND
Joe's Western Food Pasta @ Mayang Oasis Food Court, Petaling Jaya
Nice to have if you’re around the area and undecided about dinner. Otherwise, there’s no need to purposely come here for the food. This was also a huge portion. We had to pack half of it up to go. Do take note that they charge for the takeaway container. I believe it was RM0.50 or something like that.
17th CREAMY SALTED EGGS SAUCE GOLDEN CHICKEN CHOP
Sweet Forest Cafe, Puchong
The chicken itself was good. It had a nice crunchy batter coating and it was still moist inside. That salted egg yolk sauce though was a bit overkill. I really love my SEY but even for me it started getting a bit much towards the end. “Jelak” as we would say here. Still... one must award some points for that crunch, crunch, crunch!
18th CRISPY HONEY-CHIPOTLE CHICKEN CRISPERS
Chili's Citta Mall, Petaling Jaya
Not bad. But I would just go to a Korean fried chicken joint for these. Fries were good though.
JUST OK
19th BONELESS THIRDWAVE FRIED CHICKEN
Thirdwave Cafe, Kuala Lumpur
From their Lunch Special menu. The chicken was a bit greasy and nothing really that special, which is a shame because we know Thirdwave is capable of so much more. The sauce that came with this however, was good. Wedges were not bad as well, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Definitely better than the chicken.
20th THAI CHICKEN CHOP
Wake Me Up, Petaling Jaya
Not too bad tasting, and the chicken was nice and crispy. The Thai sauce could have done with a bit more kick though. #eggpornFail
