REALLY GOOD
1st STIR-FRIED ROASTED PORK
The Museum @ Starling Mall, Petaling Jaya
Very good. The pork managed to retain its juiciness and the skin was still crispy. All tossed in a sweet-savoury, umami-packed sauce. This almost reminded me of Korean fried chicken but in pork form. Very close to Amazing.
2nd KHAO KAH MOO
Thai Spot, Petaling Jaya
Nice neighbourhood restaurant managed by Aunty Fon (of the popular Frame Thai). The braised pork leg here is absolutely melt in your mouth.
3rd KHAO KHA MOO
Go Thai SS2, Petaling Jaya
Stewed pork leg with rice and egg, and some of that obligatory green stuff. Simple, but absolutely delicious Thai street food.
4th JEYUK BOKKEUM
Hansang Korean Restaurant, Petaling Jaya
Stir-fried pork and vegetables with Korean spicy sauce. We came back for dinner 2 days later. Food was good! Banchan was a bit basic but we didn’t mind at all.
5th MOO THAD KHATHIAM
Go Thai SS2, Petaling Jaya
Deep fried pork slices in garlic sauce with rice and egg. I'm a bit torn over this. It's tasty, but if given a choice I would go for the Khao Kha Moo over this. There's just something about gelatinous pork fat that gets to me...
6th KRAPAO PORK RICE
The Porki Society 珀记, Petaling Jaya
Very tasty! Not sure what the papadum or achar is doing there, but I’ll take it 😅.
7th CHEESE MENCHI KATSU
Tonkatsu by Ma Maison, Petaling Jaya
Deep-fried minced pork patty filled with cheese. Set comes with rice, tonjiru and shredded cabbage which are refillable. This was nice and I enjoyed it a lot. Loved the light, crispy coating on the pork.
8th HONEY BACON ROLLS
Zhia Kitchen Sunway Industrial Park, Petaling Jaya
Essentially a pork meatball wrapped in bacon. A Chinese version of pigs in blankets if you must.
9th HONEY RUM PORK
Vary Pasta, Petaling Jaya
This was my favourite of the night. They also do a chicken version but I much prefer the pork.
10th BRAISED PORK RICE
Kojitsu Kitchen, Kuala Lumpur
*** Private kitchen, strictly by reservations only.
11th THAI GRILLED PORK
Pom Pom By The Corner, Puchong
Went nicely with their nasi lemak. The green chili dip that came with this was good too.
PRETTY GOOD
12th BRAISED PORK
House Of PETAI Restaurant, Puchong
Tasty, but I do wish the meat was a bit more tender. Still a great dish to go with rice.
13th GERMAN PORK KNUCKLES
Knuckles Bistro, Singapore
Nicely done pork knuckles that comes with a very reasonable price. Good crackling!
14th STEAMED PORK PATTY SALTED FISH
Simply Hakka, Petaling Jaya
The menu here isn’t very extensive and the place is quite small, just half a shop lot. It’s no frills, but what you get is good, honest, homely cooking. Almost like what my mother would cook. Pricing is reasonable too, with most of the sets clocking in below RM15 inclusive of a drink and dessert of the day.
15th BABI PONGTEH
Rempapa, Singapore
Braised pork stewed with preserved bean paste, garlic, bamboo shoots and dried Chinese mushrooms.
16th HAKKA FRIED PORK
Rempapa, Singapore
Giving points for the flavour but the batter was a bit hard. It was ok.
JUST OK
17th PORCHETTA ALLA ROMANA DOP
Luretta D.O.P. Italian Deli, Petaling Jaya
Homemade 'Roman style' roasted pork, salad and piadina. This also came with a side of wedges which were lightly crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. The porchetta itself was beautifully seasoned but a bit dry in some parts. Come without expectations and you'll be alright.
