REALLY GOOD
1st BUDDHA BOWL SALAD
Botanica + Co at Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur
“Roasted cauliflower, pumpkin, red cabbage, broccoli, quinoa, chickpea, tofu and house dressing” My favourite of the evening. So much flavour in that bowl! Sometimes sharing is painful. Bonus review - We also ordered a Mediterranean salad that came with a honey olive oil dressing and that was great too!
2nd KEDONDONG SALAD
Rempapa, Singapore
Wing beans, ginger flower, herbs, peanut brittle. I think my favourite of the night. The fresh and crunchy wing beans went so well with the zesty kedondong dressing. Simple yet addictive.
3rd SALMON SALAD
Sushiya One Utama, Petaling Jaya
Loaded with generous slices of fresh salmon.
4th PROSPERITY YEE SANG - THAI STYLE
Laem Charoen Thai Seafood (Sunway Pyramid), Petaling Jaya
Yee sang given a Thai twist with sweet, juicy Thai oranges, toasted coconut flakes and dried shrimps. Familiar, yet slightly different. Special shout-out to the staff that helped us take a group photo. Instead of a photo, he took a video, with panning and zooming and all. Hilarious and fun.
5th BUDDHA BOWL
La Juiceria Superfoods Signature Atria Mall Healthy Salad & Bowls PJ, Petaling Jaya
Japanese turmeric pearl rice, roasted pumpkin, roasted seasonal veggies, tortilla chips, tofu, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized cashew brittles, lime wedge, Thai coconut curry sauce. This one I would happily eat over and over again. The sauce is served on the side, and you don’t really need too much of it as there’s enough flavours in the bowl already. Those caramelized cashews were *chef’s kiss* and if I had a jar of that it would be gone in 10 hot seconds.
6th POMELO CHICKEN SALAD
Cafe Chef Wan @ TTDI, Kuala Lumpur
“All the way from Tambun, Perak, this refreshing, juicy ‘Limau Bali’ salad with shredded poached chicken breast and watermelon cubes, is a perfect salad to boost your day.” Lovely salad to start our meal. Sweet and tart, really whets the appetite.
7th RAINBOW SALAD
Kanteen Tropicana, Petaling Jaya
Red cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, red capsicums, chickpeas, feta cheese, lime, coriander, umami honey soy dressing.
8th PROSPERITY YEE SANG
Rakuzen Sunway Pyramid, Subang Jaya
A toss for good health and wealth in the Dragon Year! Rakuzen makes a quite a good Japanese version of the yee sang. Better than some of the other traditional Chinese ones we’ve had this year.
9th AVOCADO TO SEAFOOD SALADA
Rakuzen @Empire Shopping Gallery, Subang Jaya
Their salads are always super super chilled which I always appreciate in this hot weather. This one was really refreshing, with avocado slices and assorted raw fish. Loved the dressing!
10th AVOCADO SMOKED SALMON SALAD
Red Kettle @ Starling Mall, Petaling Jaya
Smoked salmon, lava egg, avocado, almonds, chia seeds, quinoa, apple, cucumber, mesclun greens & ponzu dressing. I rarely post salads unless I really enjoy it and this… this was good. The ponzu dressing was lovely and bright and really brought everything together. Lovely.
11th INSALATA DI RUCOLA E ZUCCA
La Risata Damansara, Kuala Lumpur
Rocket salad, wood fired oven roasted pumpkin, pinenuts and ricotta cheese with a balsamic vinegar dressing. Loved this little salad!
12th KAORI-HAKO KANI TO TOBIKKO SALADA
Rakuzen Sunway Pyramid, Subang Jaya
“Kaori-hako crab and flying fish roe salad with miso dressing” Fancy name for krab.
13th SPICY PAPAYA SALAD
Laem Charoen Thai Seafood (Sunway Pyramid), Petaling Jaya
It’s the kind of spice that gets you in the throat if you’re not careful 😅.
PRETTY GOOD
14th SPICY PAPAYA SALAD
Laem Charoen Thai Seafood (1 Utama), Petaling Jaya
Nuts and dried shrimp on the side as per our request.
