Happy Mother's Day to Sharon & Molly

Happy day after National Chocolate Day and what better time than today (ok, yesterday would’ve been better) to check Brooklyn Blackout Cake off my personal bucket list and that of the Bucket List Bake Club for October’s challenge? I may never know the taste of the original from Ebinger’s but if it tasted anything like this moist, decadently filled and frosted triple decker of chocolate cake, I get why it became the hit it was. In fact, I wouldn’t have minded buying the whole cake from them either for all the work (and time) this one entailed!

BRIEF: “Indulge in our decadent Chocolate Cake. Our Chocolate Cake is made with Guanaja dark chocolate, a blend of 70% cocoa to create the perfect balance of bitterness. The result is a rich, moist and fudgy chocolate cake.” SOOT’S TAKE: This should make any chocolate cake lover happy. It’s as good as it says in the final sentence of the brief.

Got right on it after watching Bread Ahead’s live online tutorial, ahead of mom’s birthday. This was moist, scrumptious and above all, mom-approved!

It has been waaay too long since I had chocolate cake, let alone a flourless (AKA GF) one! Rich and chocolatey is the way to go!

Happy National Chocolate Day! It’s going into cake this year with leftover sour cream that won’t be tossed for once 😂

BRIEF: “Layered with a light green tea sponge, chocolate truffle and luscious green tea cream, this cake upholds the earthy and bitter characteristics of matcha, balanced off with the richness of chocolate.” SOOT’S TAKE: Not a bad combination of flavors & textures. 👍

My first attempt at steaming chocolate cake and it turned out quite moist. I’m not sure how I feel about the taste yet [it’s got a certain boxed cake mix taste (maybe it was the vanilla flavoring I used)] but I shall re-evaluate tomorrow after an overnight sit. Happy National Chocolate Cake Day!
