REALLY GOOD
1st VIOLET LEMON CUPCAKE
Plain Vanilla Cluny Court, Singapore
An April special: “lemon cake, filled with a centre of lemon curd, topped with a violet-scented buttercream and an edible fresh violet.” I really enjoyed this.
2nd CHOCOLATE ORANGE SALTED CARAMEL CUPCAKE
Fluff Bakery, Singapore
Stopped by this locally famous bakery to finally try one of their baked goods. They’ve got some interesting flavor combinations but for the price and the size, I prefer Molly’s Cupcakes (9000 miles away).
PRETTY GOOD
3rd BLUEBERRY CUPCAKES
Le Méridien Singapore, Sentosa, Sentosa
I see the "Frozen" theme still manages to sneak into birthday celebrations for little girls.
4th AMERICA’S TEST KITCHEN’S ULTIMATE CHOCOLATE CUPCAKES WITH GANACHE FILLING
Soots Cook Nook, Private
Happy National Cupcake Day! Chocolate is the name of the game in my first attempt at cupcakes! 🧁
5th YUZU OOLONG CUPCAKE
Plain Vanilla Bakery, Singapore
Props to PV for ensuring their cupcakes aren’t too heavy or excessively sweet. There were detectable hints of yuzu in the buttercream frosting but the oolong in the cake didn’t really come through for me.
NOT FOR ME
6th VANILLA BEAN CUPCAKES
Plain Vanilla ION Orchard, Singapore
THE SELL “Vanilla bean cake topped with a vanilla bean buttercream frosting and a piece of housemade vanilla bean cookie” THE REALITY These tasted old. The cake was dry and the cookie on the side was soggy. The buttercream was also too sweet for my liking. For never having had a disappointing bake from PV, I was disappointed ☹️
7th S’MORES CUPCAKES
Plain Vanilla ION Orchard, Singapore
THE SELL July special featuring a graham cracker base beneath chocolate cake with a dark chocolate fudge Centre, topped with a toasted marshmallow meringue frosting and a homemade honey graham cracker. THE REALITY These tasted old too. The cake was dry and the cookie on the side was also soggy. If I had to name it, the whole experience was Havisham-ish and doubly disappointing 🤦🏻‍♀️
