New senbei. This time in chocolat! I thought I would prefer the matcha version but this was surprisingly good too! Crunchy chocolate crackers filled with chocolatey cream.

This came with the ticket to Denjirō Ōkōchi’s house. I liked the wagashi and wish I could’ve had another one.

Got these to try at less than half their original price. Unsure as to why they’re named as such since we’re well into spring (in the northern hemisphere) and they were packed the same day I bought them? At any rate, they’re too sweet to not be paired with a strong cuppa matcha and I certainly don’t do wagashi often enough to remember to do so. 🍵

Japanese tea ceremonies always feel so formal and I always feel like I’m doing the wrong thing at any point at any given time, especially when the host is speaking Japanese. I was definitely not wrong about doing the wrong things though because on this occasion, I became the poster child for our Japanese audience for everything not to do as a guest. The joys of standing out like a sore thumb... 😶🍵 #yikes

From what I can gather, based on its appearance and its taste, this is dorayaki, a confection of sweet bean paste made from Hokkaido Azuki beans that is sandwiched between 2 very sweet pancakes.

Rice cakes covered in green tea and soy bean powder with walnuts inside. They were nice but disappointingly small for the deceptively large sized mochi featured on the display picture.

Green tea rice cake and red bean jam sandwiched between wafers. They’re nice but perhaps too pricey for a repeat purchase.
