AMAZING
1st MUSSELS IN SPICY TOMATO BRODO
Katie's Pizza & Pasta, St. Louis
I love mussels. I've had mussels everywhere I go. I've even had mussels in Brussels. They were fantastic. These are a close second due to the spicy tomato brodo (sp?). This sauce is what spicy dreams are made of! Truly gorgeous!
3rd MUSSELS IN WHITE WINE SAUCE
Bristol Seafood Grill, O'Fallon
$7 small order during happy hour. If this is small, I’d hate to see large! There were at least 25 in this bowl. I would also like to note that the garlic bread was not an afterthought. It was grilled and garlicky and delicious dipped into the broth. #mussels #moules #happyhour
4th MUSSELS WITH RED CHILE & CHORIZO BROTH
Prasino, Saint Charles
A menu standard I can't get enough of. Yum!
4th MUSSELS WITH RED CHILE & CHORIZO BROTH
Prasino, Saint Charles
Huge portion and bread dunking good broth! #yum
REALLY GOOD
5th MUSSELS & FRITES
1932 Reserve, Osage Beach
Mussels steamed with Spanish chorizo, shallots, garlic, leeks and white wine tomato broth served with frites with lemon aïoli. very good and not too spicy. He just had to be careful of lots of small broken shells in the bottom of the broth which made it a little hard to scoop out the treats so without getting a mouth full of shell.
PRETTY GOOD
6th MOULES POT
Brasserie by Niche, St. Louis
Broth was great. Mussels were barely warm. :/
7th MUSSELS
Mandarin House, University City
Baked with onion & fennel in a nice sauce but I'm not a fan of fennel... :(
8th MUSSELS IN CLAY POT WITH RICE
Viet-Thai St Peters, St. Peters
Served with a slightly spicy lemongrass / cilantro sauce that really brightened the dish.
JUST OK
9th MUSSELS POMODORO
Erio's Ristorante, St. Peters
The flavor was good but the mussels were tough and too big.
NOT FOR ME
10th MUSSELS
Das Bevo, St. Louis
Maine mussels in Gose ale, jalapeño and savory. Absolutely devoid of flavor and served with a harder than hard brick of bread. So disappointed.
11th MUSSELS
Llywelyn's Pub, Saint Charles
Meh. Overcooked and served with crunchy thin toast that couldn't soak up the Guiness, tomato, caper broth. Strangely, the tomatoes were canned, stewed tomatoes. No excuse not to use fresh in the summer months.
12th STEAMED MUSSELS
Peacemaker Lobster & Crab, St. Louis
Normally love mussels, but you know how there is always that one really funky tasting mussel in the bowl that tastes off? Unfortunately, this bowl of mussels were mostly funky mussels. 😩
