AMAZING
1st BANGERS & MASH
McGurk's Public House, O'Fallon
I ordered the French lentils in place of the mash to make this "healthier," but mostly because I love their lentils filled with spinach & veggies. The Guinness Gravy is the most flavorful gravy I've ever had. Service is usually good, but was off tonight even for a slow night due to snow.
REALLY GOOD
2nd SAUSAGE AND MASH
Dublin's Pass Irish Pub & Restaurant, Springfield
My Father had this and loved it. Thick sliced toast with mashers & bangers with brown gravy.
PRETTY GOOD
3rd BANGERS & MASH
Schlafly Bankside, Saint Charles
Pre-made sausages and a spicy gravy made this weird, but not unpleasant. The mash was the best thing about the dish. This is the third and newest Schlafly location. It opened in the old Trailhead Brewing building on Main St., Saint Charles. Their menu is much more limited than their other locations and some of my favorites are not on this menu. The sticky toffee pudding, I’m happy to say, made the cut, but we were too full to order it. Next time!
JUST OK
4th BANGERS & MASH
The Scottish Arms, St. Louis
House made pork sausage bangers. Texture was crumbly and the flavor wasn't nearly deep enough. The gravy was more like a thin sauce. Vegetables were undercooked. McGurks, by far, is still the clear winner for best bangers & mash in STL and STC.
