AMAZING
1st TRUFFLE ALFREDO
ROAST coffee & eatery, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon
With homemade tagliatelle, bacon and mushroom. So luscious! And the aroma, oh that wonderful aroma of truffles... Heavenly!
REALLY GOOD
2nd SRIRACHA DICED PORK PASTA
Blue Dye Cafe, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon
Ok this one, I freaking love. It had just the right touch of heat and flavour. I would gladly order this again!
3rd SEARED RIGATONI SMOKED DUCK PASTA
ZUKKINI, Petaling Jaya
“Shallot, garlic, chili, butter, Grana Padano cheese, zucchini, local smoked duck, cherry tomatoes, lemon, tobiko, spring onion, coriander.” Favourite of the day. Spicy and umami!
4th BEEF RAGU
The Augmented Cafe, Petaling Jaya
Absolutely freaking delicious. That sauce was rich and thick and coated each bite of pasta perfectly. Heaven!
5th PAPPARDELLE AL RAGU
Thirdwave Cafe, Kuala Lumpur
This was meaty and hearty and full of flavours. One little gripe was it was almost veering towards the sweet side. Still good.
6th SPAGHETTI CARBONARA
Extraction - SS2, Petaling Jaya
Love, love, love. This was so creamy and rich and delicious!
7th SPAGHETTINI ALLA CARBONARA CON PANCETTA DI MANZO
Casa Of Italy, Petaling Jaya
“Free range kampung egg, pecorino, grana padano, black pepper & beef panceta” No cream 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. Too many restaurants here try to make carbonara using cream and that’s a no-go in my books. Also if you noticed, each dish is topped with different microgreens which they supposedly grow themselves. The server will explain what they are and their benefits as your dish is served. Nice touch!
8th KIMCHI TUNA PASTA
The Augmented Cafe, Petaling Jaya
This may not look like much, but it’s actually packed with flavour! The lady boss prepares most of the food here and you can really tell that she puts a lot of love into her cooking. If I’m not mistaken I think the cafe makes their own kimchi as well as they want to guarantee that everything is halal.
9th DUCK 3 WAYS
WhupWhup Restaurant & Cafe, Subang Jaya
Salted duck egg, duck breast, duck bacon. Duck, duck, duck. The pasta on its own was a bit on the bland side, but mix it up with the salty duck bacon and it'll be perfect. The duck breast was nice and pink and juicy. Maybe too big a portion though. This was on WhupWhup's fourth day of operation, so I'm guessing there will still be some tweaking made to their menu. ~ "Kan gua duck cakap gua havoc."
10th CARBONARA
Red Kettle @ Starling Mall, Petaling Jaya
Topped with an onsen egg. Sauce could be silkier but that didn’t really seem to affect the taste. In fact it was so rich we wondered how one person could have finished the whole portion. For once I’m glad we opted to share 😂.
PRETTY GOOD
11th THE KILLING YOLK
Rebel Pasta, Petaling Jaya
“Matcha fettuccine in pesto with fresh egg yolk, toasted panko, parmesan and rocket leaves” Tasty, but we felt that the pasta was a wee bit under. It will not stop us from returning to Rebel Pasta though as we tasted enough to make us want to come back for more. Go early, the place does get crowded.
12th SPAGHETTI ALLA RISATA
La Risata Damansara, Kuala Lumpur
Mixed seafood and spaghetti in a hearty tomato sauce baked in foil. Tasty, but the general consensus during dinner was the food standard seemed to have dropped a little. It's still good and comforting but missing some pizzazz. Or fairy dust.
13th PASTA ALLA VONGOLE
Restoran Uno!, Subang Jaya
Nicely done with a generous amount of clams. Simple but tasty!
14th HOLLY MOLLY
Rebel Pasta, Petaling Jaya
Wasn’t half bad, but when the description said “Dark chocolate beef brisket stew” I expected something richer and thicker. This had flavour no doubt, but could have been so much better.
15th WM STYLE CARBONARA
Wondermama, Kuala Lumpur
With grand padano, beef bacon and marmite chicken, topped with cucumber. Carbonara with an Asian twist and it worked rather well.
16th SPAGHETTI KERABU
Poppo Kanteen Puchong, Puchong
I honestly was not expecting much but WOW this dish was a punch in the face with flavours. Sour and slightly sweet with all the typical Thai additions like shallots, lemongrass, Thai basil and cut chilies, you can’t help but to keep digging in. Like a Thai salad but with spaghetti! Be warned though... it’s really spicy 🌶🌶🌶.
17th CLASSIC BEEF BOLOGNESE PASTA
Tray Cafe, Kuala Lumpur
Generous portion but end of the day it is what it is.
18th SPAGHETTI AMATRICIANA
The Italian Job, Petaling Jaya
Could be an off night, but this place was much better during our previous visits.
19th CREAMY TOMATO PASTA
Purple Monkey & Pasta OHSEM Puchong, Puchong
Obviously nothing like the viral TikTok pasta 😜. Decent enough la, quite a generous portion too.
20th BUTTERMILK PASTA WITH POPCORN CHICKEN
Purple Monkey & Pasta OHSEM Puchong, Puchong
Decent enough for a delivery pasta. You need to eat this as soon as you get it as it tends to clump up when it gets cold.
JUST OK
21st LAMB WITH LEMON & OLIVE PASTA
D'Italiane Kitchen Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya
“Marinated NZ lamb with lemon rind, sliced black olives, herbs and garlic in white wine and olive oil.” ~ It’s ok. The lamb was tasty and there was a decent amount of it. Plating was a little sloppy though, lol! Also, this place is super dim and really not that good for taking photographs. Samsung phones will probably fare better than iPhones 😂.
22nd SMOKED MOZZARELLA CHICKEN
Olive Garden Italian Kitchen, Kuala Lumpur
Chicken breast tenderloins sautéed with roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes and ziti pasta in a rich and creamy smoked mozzarella cheese sauce. Nah.
23rd EBI FRY MENTAIKO PASTA
Sushi Hiro SS2, Petaling Jaya
Fried shrimp with cod roe cream spaghetti. It’s alright. Pasta was a little overcooked but the shrimps were nice. RM9.90.
24th FETTUCCINE WITH PESTO (WITH CHICKEN & MUSHROOM)
Cinta Ria Cafe & Restaurant, Petaling Jaya
Wasn’t bad, but it’s not something I would order again. More salt in the pasta water would have benefited the dish slightly.
