REALLY GOOD
1st LANGOUSTINE RISOTTO WITH MORELS
scala vinoteca, Athina
Presentation was better in March than in July. Go figure. €22
2nd VEGETABLE ORZO RISOTTO
Το Μαύρο Πρόβατο του Press Cafe στα Μελίσσια, Melissia
Easily my favourite dish here. That broth is rich, cheesy and red-winey, the orzo and vegetables cooked to al dente perfection. Might be #vegetarian but I'm not sure about the broth. €5.70
4th MUSHROOM ORZO RISOTTO
Tzitzikas & Mermigas Chalandri, Chalandri
Cheesy, creamy, with a hint of truffle. So good. €8,90
5th RISOTTO SALMONE
Come A Casa, Chalandri
With mascarpone and lemon zest. Delicious. €11,80
6th ORZO RISOTTO WITH SHRIMP
Varoulko seaside, Pireas
With sweet Lemnos wine, peperoncino and Parmesan cheese. €20 #maincourse #michelinstar
7th VEGETABLE ORZO RISOTTO
Mavro Provato of Press Café, Athina
It is still fabulous, but not as fabulous as it used to be. I don't know why all the restaurants seem to be skimping on veggies more and more — especially on plant-based dishes 😒 €7,50 Not quite vegetarian because Parmesan cheese. The brown color comes from soy sauce, which is brilliant.
PRETTY GOOD
8th DAILY SPECIAL RISOTTO
ALIO, Χαλάνδρι
With figs, hazelnuts and basil. Very well executed, I'm just not convinced I like figs in my risotto...?
9th RISOTTO WITH CUTTLEFISH INK, PRAWNS & SCALLOPS
Leúkes, Galatsi
This was great but not quite as spectacular as it looked. I found it a little lacking in umami. €17
10th SPINACH RISOTTO WITH FETA CHEESE & PHYLLO CURLS
Koukounari Restaurant, Cholargos
A little lacking in umami — extra Parmesan helped. #maincourse €9.50
JUST OK
11th ORZO RISOTTO WITH PRAWNS
Μπαρμπουνάκι Χαλάνδρι, Chalandri
If you're a fan of the classic Greek αστακομακαρονάδα (lobster spaghetti), you'll probably love this. I'm not, and I thought this seemed exactly as boring as that, plus without the scrumptiousness of lobster. I'll add anchovies, capers and garlic to the leftovers I brought home, and expect them to upgrade this significantly. Seriously overpriced at €21 — you can get a Michelin-starred version of the same dish at Varoulko for slightly cheaper, ffs. No.
