HUEVOS RANCHEROS
Cafe Nell, Portland
“Cafe Nell is a bad neighbor.”
So egregious are the marks against this establishment that I am compelled to sign up for Yelp with the sole purpose of exposing the many despicable business practices the cafe employs.
First up: The food. The menu, put simply is mediocre and overpriced (try one of their famous $8 “fresh squeezed” ‘Tropicana’ juices or the $18 Huevos Rancheros, yes $18 for two eggs lazily splashed with what appears to be store bought salsa and undercooked sausage.)
Next up we have the atmosphere. It’s a real treat. I mean who doesn’t want to be crammed into an uncomfortable, tightly packed corner with strangers all while being sexually harassed by drunken regulars in dire need of bartender intervention?
Then, as any of the Cafe’s neighbors can attest to, we have the incessant noise. Not the typical noise of patrons dining, no this is referring to the high pitched whine of a leaf blower being used daily anywhere from 7:00-8:00 AM, despite many attempts and alternative suggestions being made as to alleviate the noise pollution. Unfortunately, as with the other problematic aspects of the Cafe, upper management of the restaurant is so grossly incompetent that, and I quote, “...I have hired over twenty new employees because of COVID so no, I don’t know them all or who is in charge of leaf blowing.” What a pleasure it must be to work for a person who is so self-centered and lacking in any personal accountability (said person also double parks for extended periods of time regularly) that they don’t even know who you are or what you do at their restaurant. I hope this was informative and I hope you don’t support them.
