CHIJI-PIJI
Chama Mama Brooklyn Heights, New York
This was wonderful! I had never had Georgian food before (the country, not the American state.) The best way I can describe is it similar to the Mexican favorite chilaquiles, only without beans and tortilla chips. It wasn’t spicy, but the tomato ‘ragout’ (as the menu describes it), was perfectly balanced in texture - ie not too runny not too chunky - and was also deliciously acidic. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the yolks and ragout begged to be sopped up by the homemade bread. I also ordered the ADJARULI KHACHAPURI - which is their cheese baked in a bread boat, and dipping that into this dish was stuff people write folk songs about. I’d HIGHLY recommend ordering the two dishes together. Salty, acidic, earthy, warm, gooey goodness. The dish alone is fantastic, but ordered with the cheese bread bake - I’d get on a plane for that.
