I didn’t think they could live up to the New Orlean’s beignets I had years ago at Cafe du Monde, but actually, they are really pretty excellent! I only remember loving the NOLA beignets hot out of the oven with lots of powdered sugar, nothing more specific. These are a little different, but the dough is light, springy & fresh with maybe a touch of sweet. The crystalline sugar on top adds a little more sweetness & crunch. I actually love them! I may have to go back for more today. They’re only available Saturdays in August & then who knows when they’ll return. (I just learned that nutmeg, vanilla & maple sugar are ingredients, which is probably what added significantly to their distinctive deliciousness.)
